UVA radiation accounts for 95% of the solar UV radiation that reaches the earth. This causes photo-ageing of the skin and can be responsible for cancerous changes

UVB radiation is 5% of UV radiation. Its intensity is strongest in summer, especially during the hours of maximum sunshine. It is retained by glass and clouds, but also penetrates the skin through the epidermis and is responsible for the tanning of the skin, as well as the soreness after tanning, burns, and cancerous lesions.

As you can see, sunbathing and exposing the skin to UV radiation has quite a few disadvantages....

Repeated exposure to UV radiation without adequate protection is dangerous for the skin. The result is photoageing, which is characterised by thickening of the epidermis, roughening of the skin, wrinkles and furrows. Pigmentary changes may occur - hyperpigmentation and discolouration.
